Regionals Results – Going to State!

February 6, 2018

The Swim team is advancing 10 athletes to the 6A State Championship Meet!!!!!! The kids were incredible this weekend, and this will be our largest team ever competing at State in two weeks at UT. We placed 5th overall in a close team contest at Regionals in Rockwall against some of the best teams, set 6 new school records, and swam all new best times.

Ella Collins won both her events, the 100 and the 200 Free, advancing to state automatically, and set a new school record in the 200 Free where she beat the 3-time state champ in the event from Westlake for the first time in dramatic fashion.

Brandon Lemens got 2nd in the 100 free with a personal best time and also advanced to State automatically.

The boys 400 Free Relay of Greg Raper, Bobby Johnson, Brandon Lemens, and Lance Butler placed 2nd against a stacked field with an amazing new school record, and advanced to State automatically in the event.

The boys 200 Medley Relay of Brandon Lemens, Brooks Taylor, Greg Raper, and Matthew Kitchel also set a new school record and placed 4th, and have been “called up” to state with their time.

The girls 400 Free Relay of Ella Collins, Natalie Hoang, Sarah Rogillio, and Marie Taylor swam an awesome race and set a new school record; they placed 6th in an incredibly fast final heat, and have been called up to state with their time.

Other swims in the championship final were:

-Greg Raper- 5th in the 200 Free with a new school record, and 3rd in the 500 Free in a great race where he moved from 7th to the podium.

-Marie Taylor- 7th in the 50 free and 9th in the 100 free with two personal best times.

-Matthew Kitchel- 4th in the 50 free with a personal best time

-Lance Butler- 7th in the 50 Free and 5th in the 100 Free with two awesome best times.

-Natalie Hoang- 4th in the 100 butterfly; she didn’t think she’d make it to Regionals in this event, and really surprised herself with this finish.

-Brandon Lemens- 6th in the 100 Backstroke with a new school record and personal best time.

-Brooks Taylor- 5th in the 100 Breaststroke with an incredible time.

-The girls 200 Free Relay of Marie, Sarah, Natalie, and Ella placed 7th and barely missed being called up to State by one spot in the event.

-The boys 200 Free Relay of Kitchel, Mauricio Rivas, Bobby, and Lance placed 3rd, earning a podium appearance, and also barely missed making State in the event.

Congratulate all these kids on a great weekend!
